I love the interaction and relationships among the people-love how walls continue to come down. Nowadays, whenever I think of Citywide, I think of the great multitude worshipping Jesus in Revelation 7:9 ".there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, people, tribe, and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb." It is a beautiful picture of what God's family looks like. People from Hawaii, the mainland, and various nations worship Jesus and study the Bible together. There is a sense of excitement as we see God move through our church and as we anticipate further growth.Ĭitywide is becoming a multi-cultural and multi-nation church. This past Sunday night, we had over 40 people. Chenchen got involved with our church life, made things happen, and invited people.īefore Chenchen came this spring, we averaged 7-8 people. She was the person of peace we prayed for.Ĭhenchen's passion for Citywide was very contagious.
Eventually, she ended up at The Gathering Citywide.Įarly on, it became apparent that God sent Chenchen-she was an answer to prayer. Unfortunately, the representations of what is a "beautiful and successful women" by mass media are unrealistic, and my cousin could never compare to these unrealistic representations. Her sense of self was very much motivated by her fears of being labeled "unpopular" or "out of style," and she would spend much of her energies to keeping up with the latest trends. When she was an adolescent her appearance and behavior would change once every few months to fit the identities of the girls she saw in the magazines she read, in the television she watched, and from her female peers. My female cousin had a similar experience. Erikson describes adolescence as "The reconciliation between the person one has come to be and the person society expects one to become." Females this age look to their peers and environment for answers and are very easily influenced. This is a time when drastic physical and biological changes occur, and it is when individuals search for their identities and their roles in the society. The adolescent years can be a very confusing time for females.
